Book Buying Ban!!

  • Hott Contests & Giveaways
  • Hott Disorders

I’m Gina & I’m addicted to buying books – and, well, collecting books! Oh, my, I need help!!

I buy books when they’re on sale.
I buy books when I think they may disappear (especially, eBooks since I generally already have them in hard format!)
I download classics that I think I may want to read in the future – I never do but I might eventually want to read them, right?

Hmm, my sister-in-law mentioned this weekend that I might have OCD… I laughed & responded ‘Ya, think?!?!’  She’s always tries to be so tactfull! Yeah, doesn’t work so well at our house!!

I read this morning that Tara at 25 Hour Books is offering to ‘help support those of you who want to limit your book buying tendencies and I ask for your support in return‘. I’ve decided to join her and stop buying! Not only am I planning to stop buying but I’m going to stop downloading things I never plan to read anyway. And, I’m going to start only getting the book I want when I want it – not when I think I might want to read it at a later date. ONLY WHEN I’M READY TO READ IT.

Also – and this is huge!!! I’m going to start getting rid of my hardcopy collection. I have paperbacks & hardbacks galore so away they go!! If any of you do not share my compulsion and would like to obtain some of my books go to my goodreads page and let me know what you want – if you’ll pay the shipping I’m willing to get rid of most of these.

So, will you join us? Stop over and visit Tara at 25 Hour Books & Join in on the fun!

I download classic books that I think I *might* want to read in the future just in case ๐Ÿ™‚

I started hosting giveaways for my followers to get rid of some of the hardcopies I have doubles of.

Thanks for joining!! I'm hoping to get some more posts up on how to stop buying books ๐Ÿ™‚

Fun? I totally missed the part where going on a self imposed ban on buying books is actually FUN. So yeah… good luck with that. LOL!

    Okay, I'm mostly kidding. ๐Ÿ˜‰
My book buying dropped dramatically in the last year just because (1) it got harder for me to find the time to actually get to a bookstore and (2) I started using my library as much as I can and only buy books that I can't find at one of the several local libraries. So I guess I actually took steps toward a similar reform. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Gina, I am so with you on this!! I just weeded out some books that I donated to the hospital I work at. Hospitals are always looking for books to give to their patients! I think I got rid of about 100 books just this week and I don't even feel bad because I gave them to others who might really need them when they are feeling bad.

Christine! I'm trying to make it fun.. I'm giving away my books & not spending money (because we know I don't buy anything else for myself!)

It was better when I had to go to the bookstore. I couldn't buy as much but now with this snazzy little nook I just press a button & viola there it is! It is sooo cool. It is SOOO expensive!! Some months I do well – others not so much. Like now I have 600+ unread books on the Nook and a whole 5 shelf bookshelf unit full of books I've not read yet!

So I'm hyping myself up to get the TBR selves/files complete. Then I'll celebrate & buy a new shelf!
