Don’t go in the attic!

Out of the 100 rules their grandparents gave them to follow, that one was the most important, so of course, it was also the first one Hazel’s six-year-old sister, Bess, decides to break. Hazel cannot believe she has to be in charge of her crazy little sister this entire summer. What could be worse for an eight-year-old who always follows the rules?

But she never expected Bess would accidentally uncover a dark family secret that involves a hidden time machine and their mysterious, and grumpy, grandpa.Just when she thought her summer couldn’t get any worse, Hazel finds herself stuck in the time of Colonial America, trying to keep her sister under control while also trying to make it back. She quickly finds out that she and her sister are going to have to work together to figure it out, and that maybe, that’s not such a bad thing after all.

Hott Review:

Secrets was a cute book. It was an interesting and fun walk in the time travel realm with a bit of sibling angst thrown in.

What I liked: I am thrilled to find a fun book for children that includes history and time-travel. Pulling together a lesson with sci-fi fun is always a recipe for an amazing book!

Secrets is a lot of fun. It’s light hearted and readers hear a fun story about a much loved character.

What I didn’t like: I really didn’t like Bess or Hazel. Of course, they weren’t at their best through most of the book and they did pull out a huge moral and a great book.

Author Bio:

Ernestine Tito Jones Ernestine Tito Jones is a children’s book author who grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. where she was always the shy, but surprisingly loud, frizzy-haired girl who liked to make up stories. She now lives in California with her husband and three kids. Still shy, still loud, and she still loves to make up stories.
“Unfortunately,” said her hair. “Not much has changed.”
