Reconfiguring…. Reconfiguring…. Reconfiguring….

It just seemed like an appropriate title. How long has it been since I was given my nook? It was right around the time I started my blog. Not terribly long ago, right? Christmas of 2009.

Yet, it’s not working.

Worse. I tried to call B&N about it & guess what? B&N no longer supports tech support on the ‘1st edition’ via phone. They’ll only help through an online chat window.

So after dealing with the tech support person the chat mysteriously ended…. is it because she had no idea what I was talking about or what she was doing? Was it only an accident that she picked up the chat & told me to power up … power down… power up … power down… power up … power down… power up … power down… yup that’s all we got done.

Then I opened another session… just a glutton for punishment, I guess. This gentleman very patiently helped me to completely reset my nook back to the original software & settings. It didn’t help & his copied & pasted directions were less than explanatory.

When that didn’t help… I was told to go to a B&N store. Really?!?! If there was a close one I would have done that instead of ‘chatting’! Grrr!!!

Do you want to know how he replied???? “Call the tech support number & they can help you.” Really? Because I didn’t already try that twice? Seriously?

I guess this explains by B&N is losing so very much business!

  • I feel your pain. My first e-reader was a Barnes and Noble Nook, not the first or second model rolled out either. It lasted one month past the warranty, ’nuff said. Okay, now people might comment that their Nooks are super (I gave my husband my next adventure in e-readers, the Nook Color older version, and it is still working for him, a light reader). I prefer the basic lightweight gadgets to read on, which is why I’m not using that.

I now have the Kindle Paperwhite for a year and am very, very satisfied. This is one of their cheapest models, but the battery lasts a long time & the screen is lit up so I can read in the dark, also very easy on the eyes. My daughter has the Kindle Fire, the first model, and is totally satisfied, so….

Maybe it is just your bad luck or maybe the older Nooks weren’t meant for serious book addicts who use them 24/7. My advice: next time get a kindle. (p.s. hubby is telling me that he read somewhere B & N is getting out of the e-reader biz in future).

    • Honestly, Rita. I LOVED it. I used it every day for two years and even though I’ve been using my ipad recently my son had been using it. It’s definitely been well used – but still. I’d heard B&N are getting out of the market, as well. It’s a shame. A complete waste.
