Wildflower Bride, Mary Connealy

Wade has made a journey few men do – at least without God at their side. His mother died when he was young and Wade endured a physically and emotionally abusive father, Mort, until he could stand that lifestyle no longer. What was the straw that broke Wade’s back? Cassie.

Remember all the way back in Montana Rose? Wade desperately wanted Cassie but Mort decided that to have the water rights to Cassie’s land he should have her instead. In Mort’s defense, he did offer to share her with Wade. Luckily for Cassie, Red stepped in and saved her from that Sawyer fate, but it left an emotionally abused Wade alone.

Did he take that well? Heavens no! He stalked Cassie and tried to kill Red. Until, **MONTANA ROSE SPOILER ALERT** the fateful day when Wade finally found a way to kill Red and take Cassie away with him. Things didn’t go as Wade planned that day but he ended the day far better than he started it. He ended it saved and with friends.

Becoming an upstanding citizen wasn’t easy for Wade after that. He had a lot to make up for in town. Fortunately, he realized that actions speak louder than words and after apologizing set about to showing everyone that he really was a changed man. One of those actions brought him to the rescue of Glowing Sun. ** THE HUSBAND TREE SPOLIER ALERT ** A member of a neighboring Indian tribe. She didn’t fit in with the rest though with her porcelain skin and platinum hair. Wade fell in love instantaneously. Then Glowing Sun’s fiancé picked her up and carried her off into the sunset.

This installment of Montana Marriages begins with Wade waking to the sound of a gun fight. He races out the door and to the rescue only to find that Glowing Sun’s village has been annihilated. Well ,not quite, he sees riders racing over the hill with a squall, wait! That’s Glowing Sun! Wade can tell by the way she sliced her captures. He shoots one of the men and rides to the rescue. After visiting her village to be turned away by the few remaining villagers Wade takes Glowing Sun toward home.

On their way they are met by Silas (The Husband Tree) and Red (Montana Rose). Wade’s neighbors are out looking for him because Mort has broken his back and is calling for Wade. It takes some prayer but Wade eventually sees his duty and returns home dragging his girl behind him. Mort hasn’t changed at all and Wade has quite a bit of trouble staying to fix things… especially, since it looks like someone is trying to kill Glowing Sun.

My Thoughts

I enjoyed this book, not nearly as much as the other two, but it was still fun. It was really cool how a side story in both of the first two books was pulled together into this book and finished. However, you don’t need to read the others to read this one. She writes in such a way that you feel like you’ve known them forever and haven’t missed a thing if you pick up in the midst of a series.

What I liked: I liked that Mort didn’t change his mind about his heir. It made it feel more real to me. I liked that while Mort made changes he never did a complete 180. The relationships all seemed very plausible and real to me. Oh, and I of course, loved that I laughed throughout the book!

What I didn’t like: ** SPOILER ALERT ** I thought that some things were missed in the wrap-up. They may just be planned for other installments but I still felt a sense that something else should have been there. Like the gold – it’s still missing in the hills. The plan to kill everyone and the reasons why were never really ‘discussed’. (I’m not sure that I’m saying that exactly how I mean it. The reader and some of the characters know why but it just didn’t feel finished.)

Rating: B
Buy or Borrow: Buy
Steam: Not too much – there is some violence though. Nothing explicit but we are dealing with the annihilation of a village.

** Many of the books I review are Advance Review Copies. These books are loaned to me for my review. I am in no way compensated for my time nor am I asked to give anything but my honest review.

  • I agree. I didn't love this one as much as the other two. For me I think it was that I didn't like the heroine as much. I actually felt bad for Wade. I wanted him to end up with someone sweeter. Great post/review.
