Review: Les Miserables

Jean Valjean was sentenced to five years in prison for stealing bread to feed his sister’s staving children. When he was finally released nineteen years later he was turned away from all of the inns because of his record. Fortunately, he was finally taken in by a paster and his sister who offered him all that he needed – and in a sort time taught him that forgiveness is freedom.

Due to circumstances beyond his control, Jean Valjean missed his parole meeting and spends his life running from the law while showing others love, compassion, and forgievness.

Jean Valjean’s love for others leads him on a journey through an amazing life with many people who love and respect him – a convict. Some who cannot deal with the reality the irony.

Although this is not a book I would have picked for myself, I enjoyed it immensely. It was very emotional and gripping. It shocked my how something so simple as forgiveness could change the path of one’s life so drastically.

I absolutely refuse to grade a classic – it just seems wrong…
