Forbes knows that he’s a control freak. He’s the oldest child. Of course, he’s a control freak. But is he really bad enough that his sister, Meredith, felt the need to elope because of him?

Alaine knows her family is hiding something but dragging it out of them is another story. They’re so worried that when Alaine finds out that they are all on the verge of losing their homes and businesses due to some bank maneuvering and double-talking that she’s do something to endanger her career that they’ve not told her yet. She takes it like a big girl, though, and finds the best lawyer she can.

Well, not really. She’s called all the lawyers in town and none will take her case when they find it’s against the Guidry family. Well, all except one. So what that he’s only offered to meet with her because she didn’t tell him who it was against? But what will Alaine do when the attorney she’s meeting with is replaced with none other than Forbes Guidry?

What a cute book! I enjoyed it tremendously. I will warn you – it is a ‘been there, done that’ book. There is nothing that significantly makes this book stand out from the pack. Well, that’s not quite true. I’ll read it again.


What I loved about this book: I loved how the family is portrayed. The conflict within the family and the dynamics of being part of a large family are very accurate and comforting. The portrayal of the ‘black sheep’ and the feelings of loss when you lose your family because you have to stand for what you know is right was all too familiar. So was the turmoil that a control freak goes through when laying aside – daily – their own control issues and leaving it to God. 


What I didn’t like? Hmm. Nothing. It’s a traditional, inspirational, contemporary romance – what can’t I love about that?
