Kindred in Death

amazon barnes & noble Goodreads
When the newly promoted captain of the NYPSD and his wife return a day early from their vacation, they were looking forward to spending time with their bright and vivacious sixteen-year-old daughter who had stayed behind.

Not even their worst nightmares could have prepared them for the crime scene that awaited them instead. Brutally murdered in her bedroom, Deena’s body showed signs of trauma that horrified even the toughest of cops; including our own Lieutenant Eve Dallas, who was specifically requested by the captain to investigate.

When the evidence starts to pile up, Dallas and her team think they are about to arrest their perpetrator; little do they know yet that someone has gone to great lengths to tease and taunt them by using a variety of identities. Overconfidence can lead to careless mistakes. But for Dallas, one mistake might be all she needs to bring justice.

Hott Review:

What I liked:I really enjoyed Kindred in Death. I really find these books shocking but with that element of truth that keeps them compelling.

This one is quite gruesome. The case is awful but the investigation is interesting and really pulls you in.

The family this team has created is wonderful. It’s so wonderful to see these broken people banding together to help others and find justice.

There were a few references to previous cases, books, that twitched my memory. However, those were passing thoughts and didn’t play into this book at all. In other words, while you’re reading you may think you missed something by not reading a previous book, but you haven’t. It’s completely stand alone. Though I do suggest reading the books, in order, it’s quite fascinating.

One of the things I like most about reading the In Death books? I love her descriptions! For instance, when she’s describing McNabb’s clothing: “a tee the color of radioactive egg yolks scrambled with lightning bolts” I know just what color she’s taking about! Hubby even has a shirt in this color 😉 so I know exactly what she’s talking about!

What I didn’t like: The rape was very detailed and heart-breaking. I couldn’t read it and could just skim those couple of pages. Though we’re just seeing it through Eve’s eyes and not witnessing the even, it’s still quite traumatic.

The other thing I don’t like about these books is the foul language. I think it and the detailed intimacy between Eve and Roarke is unnecessary.
