Jolene and Rachel were very close for years.

They were the best of friends and Rachel took the place of Jolene’s mother. Until Jolene’s machinations paid off and Rachel finally married Jolene’s father, Bruce Peyton. Now, Jolene barely speaks to Rachel and the tension has gotten so bad that Rachel left before it hurt the baby she’s now carrying.

Bruce adores both of his girls but he didn’t fully understand how bad things had gotten until Rachel walked out.

I love that in every book you’re given a character rundown that reminds you who everyone is and which book they’re from. I’d have been utterly lost otherwise. If you’re starting with this book it gives you enough of a glimpse to get you through this book without overwhelming you with details.

This episode in the Cedar Cove saga felt very unfocused to me. It wasn’t just the quantity of characters it was the depth of their stories. I think there could have been at least three and possibly four novellas made from this book. I generally love Macomber’s writing style but for some reason this one was just not right for me.
