At nineteen, Kitty’s idea of an adventure is spending the summer researching and cataloging humpback whales but when a ton of gold is stolen her inquisitive nature kicks in and gets her into trouble — and into the hands of the thieves.
Can Kitty escape this disastrous situation before the thieving kidnappers do their worst?
Hott Review:
Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold was tremendously fun!
What I liked: I think this is a strong book for all ages. It’s very well written and holds a great adventure so teens and adults will enjoy it but it also explains everything – uncommon words, historical facts, science facts – in a way that even children will understand. Iain Reading certainly knows how to weave a wonderful tale for all ages!
What I didn’t like: There was some mild cursing in “Kitty Hawk and the Curse of the Yukon Gold” which took it off of the table for my middle-grader but it’s nothing most won’t hear before 8pm on tv.
I was really irked that the book didn’t end with how Kitty got out of the predicament that she starts in. The opening of book details Kitty on an around the world flight and she’s out of gas with no landing area in site…. but we don’t have another reference to that aspect of the flight in this book.
