Review: The Twenty-First Wish

by | Apr 16, 2011 | A+, ARC, Novella, YA

I know, I know, I’ve been off schedule when it came to me novellas. I honestly think I was just reading too much Holmes. It’s enthralling but, quite, morose. I also have been a bit busy. You know, with mom stuff, so I’ve not been dropping by like usual – or reading. My reading time has suffered dramatically! Ah well, onward & upward!

The Knitting Diaries is an anthology including The Twenty-First Wish by Debbie Macomber; Coming Unraveled by Susan Mallery; and Home to Summer Island by Christina Skye.

Three wonderful authors. Each novella will be reviewed seperately. This week we’re reviewing The Twenty-First Wish.

Hott Synopsis

Ellen may only be ten but she absolutely knows what she wants. Well, in her shoes, who wouldn’t? She spent part of her life with no dad and a drug addict mom, was dumped at a wonderful but elderly grandmother’s when her mother tired of her, and was then tossed into ‘the system’ when her grandmother died. But Ellen is passed that now, she’s been adopted (by Anne Marie who she now calls Mom), she has friends, her father has become a part of her life. What could be better?

She could have one last thing… there is one thing that she’s added to the list of twenty wishes her Mom helped her to make… her mom could marry her dad. Sure, Mom has a boyfriend but Ellen is sure Mom likes Dad’s kisses better.

Hott Review

I really enjoyed the other books featuring Ellen and Anne Marie. I’ve loved reading all of the Blossom Street books and seeing how everyone has grown and changed.

This book switches perspectives between the narrator, Ellen, and Anne Marie which I generally find confusing but didn’t mind a bit in this book. There were also quite a lot of characters and even though I couldn’t remember why the names were familiar they weren’t such a big deal that I felt like I was missing something.

This was a get book! Grab it today!! Meanwhile – I’m off to read Coming Unraveled by Susan Mallery. Yippee!! The best me time this week!

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!
