The Color of Grace Tour Button

Author’s Synopsis

The Color of Grace

When my mother remarried after thirteen years of being a widow, I had to move to a new town and enroll in a new school. Suddenly thrust into an entirely different kind of life, I just wanted to go home. I didn’t want to meet new people, didn’t want to leave my old friends, didn’t want to become a third wheel to my mom and her husband….and I really didn’t want to see Ryder Yates again. Ugh, I still don’t know why I turned down that too-good-to-be-true boy who flirted with me when we were attending separate schools.

But honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It was worse.

Who knew becoming lost in a new life could help a girl find her true colors?

Interview With Linda Kage

What inspired you to write this story?

There were two cases of accusations made against men for taking advantage of their new stepdaughters in my neighborhood. These two cases happened a lot closer to home than I felt comfortable with. And since both instances happened within a few months of each other, it shocked and horrified me to learn how often this really occurred. Made me wonder what a girl was supposed to do when she found herself in a similar situation. Then more what-ifs cropped up until Grace’s story formed and The Color of Grace was born.

What is your favorite line from THE COLOR OF GRACE?

The bell rang and I nearly shouted in relief. Thank goodness I could finally get out of this class so I wouldn’t let someone talk me into donating a kidney or something.
And my favorite line that was deleted from the final draft:
“Holy Hosanna, Grace. He’s gorgeous. Just gorgeous.” She patted me approvingly as if it were my fault Ryder Yates was gorgeous.
His looks were his own doings, of course. It wasn’t as if I’d formed him out of clay with my bare hands. But Bridget seemed determined to congratulate me on a job well done.

Will there be a sequel for THE COLOR OF GRACE?

No. Not from Grace’s point of view anyway. If her world continued into a series, the next story would probably be about someone else in the nerd herd, but I don’t see that happening either. Though nothing is set in stone, of course!

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!
