Haunted by the memory of the worst of her divorced parents’ public Christmas blowouts, Kerril, will do almost anything to avoid the upcoming tinsel-filled season. Unfortunately, a teacher with a grudge casts Kerril as the lead in the school’s holiday production. To add to the misery, she will star alongside ultra-awkward Adam as her love interest.
Wanting to ditch the play, Adam, her parents, and Christmas altogether, Kerril accepts an invitation to take off to a cabin with her ultimate dream crush, Perry – only Perry may not be the guy she hoped he was, and it’s not until she’s left Adam behind to fend for himself onstage that she realizes he might just be the guy of her dreams.

Hott Review:
What I liked: A Christmas Kerril is a cute novel vaguely based on A Christmas Carol. It’s fun to watch Kerril meander through the intricacies of high school and try to understand how her dreams apply to her life.
I’m not sure if most teens will get that Kerril really isn’t any more self-involved than most. While she’s given an understanding of others during the book, it’s hard to say whether this experience will truly alter her perceptions going forward.
What I didn’t like: I wasn’t too keen on the foul language. I felt it was much more than necessary.

The first draft of her debut novel, LOSING FAITH, was written in 21 days during NaNoWriMo 2007. Her first non-fiction book, WRITING WITH A HEAVY HEART: Using Grief and Loss to Stretch Your Fiction, was out in October, 2012. Her second non-fiction book for writers, FAST FICTION was released in 2014 from New World Library, and her latest YA, FOREIGN EXCHANGE was an Editor’s Pick from Evernight Teen. Here next young adult novel, AVALANCHE, will be released from Leap Books in early 2016.
She lives just outside Vancouver, Canada with her husband, Ted, and their eleven-year-old son, who she homeschools (and who fast drafts his own story during NaNo each year).
