A classic cold case reopened—along with Pandora’s box

When eleven-year-old Lucy Devlin disappeared on her way to school more than a decade ago, it became one of the most famous missing child cases in history.

The story turned reporter Clare Carlson into a media superstar overnight. Clare broke exclusive after exclusive. She had unprecedented access to the Devlin family as she wrote about the heartbreaking search for their young daughter. She later won a Pulitzer Prize for her extraordinary coverage of the case.

Now Clare once again plunges back into this sensational story. With new evidence, new victims and new suspects – too many suspects. Everyone from members of a motorcycle gang to a prominent politician running for a US Senate seat seem to have secrets they’re hiding about what might have happened to Lucy Devlin. But Clare has her own secrets too. And, in order to untangle the truth about Lucy Devlin, she must finally confront her own tortuous past.

Hott Review of Yesterday’s News:

Wow! He just jumped right in! 🤯

The hurt, confusion, far, and pain were there on page one. It was inescapable. Then the rollercoaster crested with determination and the ride was on.

I’ve not read many books about reporters investing their stories, in fact, this may be my first. And after reading this I know it would be an annoying job 😉 everyone lying, keeping secrets, manipulating others and that just seems to be in the newsroom. It seems like an interesting job but one that you’d have to love to do. And how frustrating it would be to work so hard to dig out the facts only to find they’re taking you in a completely new direction or aren’t really as substantial as you thought.

I did like following Clare’s investigation, even though I didn’t always like Clare. Watching her investigation unravel her well kept secrets made for quite a mystery that I didn’t want to put down. It was interesting and included facts buried in red herrings and while we followed the mystery through Clare’s eyes we didn’t always know everything she knew… Yesterday’s News was, in a word, fabulous!

Just a note for those that need to know: there are lots of triggers in this one; it speaks quite a bit about child abuse, in many forms, and child predators.

Yesterday’s News is simply fantastic! I can’t wait to read more from Clare!

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!
