It was their only choice. Their parents have died and their only living relative is their grandfather. The grandfather they’ve never met because he didn’t approve of their mother.
The children have little trouble finding work but they must be very careful to keep little Benny close so the he doesn’t end up in a Children’s Home. Luckily, they are able to find an empty boxcar on an unused track that protects them well from the elements. How long will they be able to stay hidden from their Grandfather a mere town away?

It’s been such a long time since I’ve read the first of the ‘Boxcar Children’ series. It was such a pleasure to share this journey through time with my children. To take them back to my childhood, or more possibly my mother’s, when children could safely have an adventure and learn to live.

This was one of my favorite series when I was younger – this and The Bobbsey Twins, too! I can't wait to have kids and share my favorites with them!
