Yes, I know I’m weird but when I get an author’s attention I have questions. Come of you probably think they’re off the wall questions but, honestly, these questions just help me to remember that authors are people too.

In that light, I recently got to talk with Catherine Green, author of ‘Life in the Palace’ (which is on my soon to read list!!). Here is my burning question šŸ™‚

Catherine, what are the top ten things that irritate you when you’re writing?

  1. My phone ringing.
Oh my goodness! I know, right?
  2. People who call every phone I own because I didn’t answer the first time.
Grr, my hubby does this. It’s so irritating. He’ll call my cell & I’ll be sitting next to the landline (he knows I’m home, right?) then when I get to the landline he’s hung up and is calling my cell. Heck, before I’m done racing around the house, He’s called three times, sent an email, and sent 15 texts. I’m afraid to go to the bathroom for fear he’ll call 911!!
  3. The people who then try calling all my phones again five minutes later, in case I was in the bathroom and miraculously ceased to have caller ID on any of the aforementioned phones.
HA! You must live with hubby’s clone!!
  4. Running out of diet coke.
    Oh no!! You need minions!
  5. When the amount of diet coke needed to fuel my creative process is not compatible with the size of my bladder.
It’s too hard to stop isn’t it. You probably don’t even notice that you have to go until it’s almost too late.
  6. Having to look something up online and getting sucked into the black hole of social media.
It’s mind-wrenching what SM does to us, isn’t it?
  7. Not remembering a detail from the previous book in the series and have to wade through multiple chapters to find the place where I mentioned the name of the bike shop in which the protagonist’s sister’s boyfriend worked.
Ha! I feel for you. I constantly have to remind myself that authors can’t remember every detail when I notice an incorrect detail but they kill me!
  8. Getting so emotionally involved in my story that plot twists cause me to throw up or go to therapy. (Both actually happened.)
Awww!! I want to be your therapist šŸ˜‰
  9. The need to feed my family, do laundry or function like a regular person.
    Heck, I get this & I don’t even write!
  10. The sudden fear that I’m the only one who finds my jokes funny.
    Don’t worry, I think you’re amazing… of course, I’m a bit odd but still, you’re not alone!

ā€œWe need to talk,ā€ Tal said. Then I knew it was going to go badly. ā€˜We need to talk’ is the conversational equivalent of walking into your basement without turning on the light, on a dark and stormy night, when a known psychopath is on the loose. You might as well cut to the chase and slit your own throat.

Chloe Diaz assumed three things: that when Tal said that she was one of The People sent from heaven to maintain the cosmic balance, it was code for ā€˜I’m a pamphlet distributing, incense burning, religious weirdo;’ that the gorgeous Seth Wilks would never be her soul mate and that she’d never have to choose between them. Chloe was wrong.

Now the future of the world is in her hands, but what if price is too great to pay?

Synopsis:

After a lifetime in the shadow of her sister, Chloe is severely phobic of the chronically cool. Seth is everything she avoids; a pre-med philosophy major who works in a bar, plays in a band and is so good looking that grown women stare at him in the street. But it’s hard to say no to your soul mate. Thinking she’s maxed out her supply of destiny, Chloe settles down to enjoy the happily-ever-after.

Tal says that she’s one of The People sent from heaven to maintain the cosmic balance. Chloe assumes this is code for ā€˜I’m a pamphlet distributing, incense burning, religious weirdo.’ Actually Tal’s main extracurricular activity is fighting the forces of Oblivion. The People never need to hide what they are because no one ever believes them. Until Chloe does.

Chloe sets out to help Tal and The People as much as she can as an outsider. Seth says as long as no one wears their underpants on the outside Chloe can do what she likes. What he doesn’t say is that he’s also one of The People, although non-practicing. But as the Final Battle draws nearer, Chloe realizes it’s time for Seth to go collect his regulation sword. The only thing standing in his way is her. Seth says he’ll give up his place in heaven to stay with her. Chloe must choose between Seth’s soul and her own happiness.

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!

Yes! I hate when I run out of diet soda too. Plus, I’m always saying I need a minion as well. Fun interview.

      Thanks!
I really like talking to authors, but interviews are always so boring šŸ˜‰ I just wanted to lighten it up!
