The student, Scapulus Holmes, appears to be just as arrogant and self-involved as Amanda expected. Hopefully, she can get through this term without trusting another classmate out to hurt her.
The mystery is quite a mystery. There’s a missing student, the teachers are edgy and arguing, and to top it off the Moriarty matriarch appears to be getting her escape opportunity. Can Amanda and her friends figure out what’s going on and stop it before the school is destroyed – or worse!
Hott Review of Amanda Lester and the Pink Sugar Conspiracy:
What I liked: Amanda Lester and the Orange Crystal Crisis is a twisting maze of mystery written to entice even the most reluctant of readers. It’s a tremendously fun adventure that Amanda and all of her friends join in on. It’s great how they work together and overcome their differences in order to make the best decisions and solve the mysteries.
The overall plot is great but I really think that the underlying lessons in Amanda Lester and the Orange Crystal Crisis will benefit many middle-graders in the years to come.
What I didn’t like: I really felt like Amanda Lester and the Orange Crystal Crisis was long in places. It’s not terrible just longer than it needed to be.
I get it. Pre-teen crushes are typical. I just don’t think they needed to be quite so many. Plus, they’re twelve. The romance and crushes seemed to be a bit more emotionally involved than necessary.
