Return Issues

About little over a month ago I finally broke down and bought CJ the eReader he’s been begging for. I did a lot of research because I already have a Nook and I wanted the books I buy from BN.com to work with both readers – I frequently pre-read books before giving them to him.

Well, after many calls and quite a bit of research I chose the Aluatek “Libre” eReader Pro. It does most of the things that the Nook does – reads epub & Adobe files, plays music, has a picture viewer – it came with 100 books, and it was black (apparently that is a BIG deal for CJ). Fortunately, for us it was back ordered. We ordered it on June 20 and just received it today.

He was so excited. We pulled if out of the box, charged it, and tried to open one of the books.

Unable to read this file‘?

WHAT!?! Is this thing nuts? Hmm, so I searched online for help. Followed all of the instructions to no avail.

But guess what I did find? The Libre eReader Pro does read epubs… just not the ones from Barnes & Noble. I called and asked & they said ‘yes, no problem, it reads all epubs.’

Okay. So I call the return line. Guess what? They don’t take returns unless it’s defective. I very politely reminded them that it didn’t read the books that were factory installed and do you know what the helpful CSR said? ‘Did you install Adobe Digital?’

Excuse me? McFly? The books that were preloaded should have opened without me doing anything!! Grrr. I ask if I can return it. She said that I only have 30 days from the date of receipt to get it back.

Okay. Relax.

So I very politely ask if I can return it to the store the ever so helpful CSR said it shouldn’t be a problem.

I printed out my receipt and thought… Hmm, the way this day is going… So I called the store.

Nope, they can’t take back returns. It’s electronic. They really aren’t able to do that and if they did it would only be for store credit. Ha! Like I’m buying anything there for the next century!

So, I’m packaging the sticking little black thing back up and getting him the silly white one like mine. The extra $20 was not worth all of this effort!!

What a day!

Has anyone else had better luck with Border’s? Or maybe worse luck with another brand?

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!

Whoa. That's awful. I've never heard any issues with my Kindle. One time I accidentally purchased something digital and they reimbursed me immediately.
