Still an earth-bound spirit-detective, Tuck is on the case of the murder of a mysterious philanthropist with ties to the Russian mob and 1930’s gangsters. With the help of his wife, Professor Angela Tucker, and his former partner, Detective Bear Braddock, they must find the killer and be the first to read “the book”—an old gangster’s journal of the roots of espionage, racketeering, and corruption leading to the identity of modern-day powerbrokers and spies. Tuck finds a colorful cast of allies in a tough Assistant U.S. Attorney General, a secretive FBI agent, and the spirits of a long-dead 1930’s gangster and his sassy girlfriend.

As Tuck searches to learn the secrets of “the book,” he begins to unravel his own ancestry of mobsters, adventurers, and wayward spirits. Is being a ghost hereditary?

Hott Review:

Detective Oliver Tucker is back, well sort of. He’s not back from the dead or anything just still in his temporarily undead state. So when someone dies at his wife’s gala, his Detective gear start churning and he knows that he needs to figure out what’s going on before the body start piling up.

This mash of undead and slightly dead characters, events from the past and the present merging, and the mob scene from 100 years ago converging on the mob scene today was a fun mystery to follow.

I absolutely love Tuck! He’s a great character and a lot of fun to follow. Angela is a great character and Bear is certainly a partner everyone wishes they had. I loved that they were fully faceted characters and you could really get into their heads and see them as people instead of as just characters.

I enjoyed jumping into the speakeasies, hidden rooms, and all of the fun enhancements we wish were in our houses today but I also loved how that was played off of current advancements. Mashing the timelines together with the past and present clothing and accessories was a lot of fun to watch.

Plus, the mystery! Someone is dead and the killer needs to be found and a mobster is missing someone and a book. There are several layers of mysteries but to find out how and where they connect who the culprits are you have to keep your wits about you. So many secrets, so many lies, finding the truth doesn’t necessarily come with death.

I enjoyed Dying to Know but I loved Dying For The Past. I couldn’t put it down. It felt so real, not like fiction at all, I couldn’t wait to know what happened next but still wanted to prolong the time I got to spend with the Tucker Gang.

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!
