My Story
I know it’s not an excuse and I KNOW that I really need to stop jumping to conclusions. I really do try to stop. It’s just so difficult – especially when I know I’m in trouble….
Hubby has put our house on a budget. He’s absolutely right. We’re not broke and we’re not in over our heads but we do need to be better. We made this deal: nothing goes on the credit cards, no eating out, no book purchases, and no sports gear until we’e paid off a few choice bills. This started on the 10th of last month.
No problem, right?
Well, the book thing is KILLING me but luckily there are enough freebies out there that I can live vicariously. Until early Saturday morning when I was balancing my credit card statement. I had TWO charges from BN.com since February 1st!
Now, I’ve only purchased one book since Christmas and that was to have been charged to the gift card I received for Christmas so there shouldn’t have been ANY charges. So I browsed though all of my receipts clear back to January 5th and there were no receipts for more than 0.00 except one for 2.99 that said it was charged to a gift card.
So, I called B&N. First I had to listen to their stupid ‘choose a number’ audio four times because every time it got to the selection area some one in my family started talking. Now, they hadn’t been in the room at all but as soon as I get on the phone here they come….
I got this very nice lady on the phone. “Hello, I have two charges on my credit card for last month and one appears to be the same as a charge to my gift card. I’m not really positive though because my credit card statement only shows the amount and the company not any additional information like an order number.”
“Okay, let me get some information from you. Name.” okay.
“email” alright that makes sense
“address” do you really need more?
“zip” really? aren’t you just verifying my account by now?
“when did you place this order?”
“the order you were double charged for.”
“Oh, well, then you’ll need to send a fax into xxx-xxx-xxxx with the charge on your credit card statement and the receipt from your order to show that you were double charged.”
“Oh, well, then you need to call the audits department. Their number is ccc-ccc-cccc.”
THEN, I finally did something intelligent: I searched my email for the amount of the charge. DUH! What I found was that there were two books that I had pre-ordered and they had just been billed to the account. What a ding-bat!!
The people at the party Saturday night I just ran out on because I was dog tired and no having fun. I should have made more of an effort but honestly I was so ready to go home.
Don't blame your self. You should be able to call and inquire. I do that to Amazon for my Kindle all the time. Sorry they gave you such a hard time and good luck with the no book buying.
@Felicia — I SO understand that! I'm sure they understand as well!
@Juju — I don't but I do feel bad that I couldn't apologize in person. I was really getting short with her because it just felt like she was only listening to me part of the time. UGH!!
ROTFLMAO. This made me smile. Enjoy your books and the budget. I know from experience how killer it is but you get used it and the library becomes your best friend!
Lynette – please, don't laugh any harder… but, I have more than 1000 books UNREAD on my ereader. I seriously need help!! I honestly think that I have more books than our public library!
Gina…we all make mistakes and that was not a biggie. I, personally, get frustrated, once I hear "pay close attention to the menu and after 5 minutes I am still listening to the menu. Enjoy your 1000 (LMAO) books. can we spell A-D-D-I-C-T waves waves
