After my son’s basketball game last week I drove he and one of his teammates, J, home. I’d noticed during the game that one of their friends, usually a starter, had sat the bench throughout the game. So I asked if he was okay.

Bug replied, “He hurt his ankle.”

“Oh, how did it get hurt?”

Bug – “He burnt it.”

J at the same time – “He twisted it.”

“Huh?”

Bug – “He stepped on glass.”

Knowing that they were full of it, I asked, “How did he do all of that?”

Bug – “He jumped into a fire, landed on glass and twisted it trying to get away.”

Hmmm, and this is the kid who wrote a creative writing story that sounded suspiciously like the Lord of the Rings… even with the same names!
