Our Evening

WOW. What a wonderful evening! My family is so sick!
It started out as a typical evening. I picked the kids up after school, rush home to get them a snack, walk the dogs, feed the bunnies, rush out the door to make practice on time. As i turned the corner into the parking lot, Zany said, ‘Mom, my belly hurts.’ I asked if she felt like she was going to throw up. She said probably, I pulled to the closest grassed area and stopped the car. She started trowing up. OK. No problem, super mom can handle this.

I cleaned up what I could with the tissues in the car and we walked inside. I asked CJ if he could hang out with Bug so that I could run and find Zany some meds and a bucket. I spoke to the coach to let him know where I was going and why. As I pull out of the parking lot it hits me – we’re in the middle of NOWHERE! Nothing is close!!

So I run to the closest mall. Guess what? No pharmacy. No grocers. Nothing useful just clothes and food. GRRR

Ok. Just a few more miles down the road is a Target they’ll have everything. So I search though all of the shelves looking for children’s Dramamine – that I have a full unopened box of at home. Guess what? They don’t carry it. The lady at the counter said, “Sorry, we don’t sell it.” They have adult Dramamine but she won’t swallow pills. Oh, well, I guess we’ll be choking them down.

Ok I find a bucket. $6 for a BUCKET? I just don’t have time to look for a cheaper one and she’s laying in the bottom of the cart and people are giving me those ‘You are such a horrible mom. shopping while your baby just wants to sleep’ looks. I grab Clorox wipes and run to the checkout.

Checkout counter. No Ginger Ale. Crud! Diet coke will have to do. I just know this is going to be horrible. She always gets sick from the silliest things!

OK. Back to the car. She takes the meds & a sip of soda. I look at her and say, ‘No throwing up for at least an hour’. As we get back on the highway, I hear a small voice say, ‘Can you tell me when an hour is up?’ Uh-oh. This can’t be good…

So she throws up all the way back to practice. Oh well, it can’t get worse. We walk inside and I take her to the bathroom and clean her and the bucket up. I then sit her outside of the gym and go to get CJ. huh. he’s asleep on the bleachers. what in the world? Where he was sitting there was no way to get to him without climbing over people so I called to him and told him to get his stuff and meet me on the steps.

As he walks across the gym I can see how pale he is. Please, God, not him, too! I handed him Dramamine and suggested he go get a sip of water. He leaves and then comes back.

‘Did you take it?’
‘Not really’
‘What did you do with it?’
‘I put it in my mouth’ he’s making these funny faces so i guess that it’s suck in his mouth
‘if it’s still in your mouth go get a drink’
‘it’s not’
‘where is it?’

He then places both hands on his face. I yell, ‘Go to the bathroom. Go to the bathroom. GO… TO… THE… BATHROOM.’ Goodness, why doesn’t that boy listen? The next thing I see are partially digested oranges spewing out of his hands from between his fingers. Then he took the bucket from his sister who is also throwing up. REALLY? Did he REALLY just do that? UGH!!

After that things settled down. i cleaned them both up. Cancelled the rest of my evening appointments and took them home. I am so ready for bed!!

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!
