America the Beautiful

America the Beautiful is a wonderful, heart wrenching song – typically. My daughter, Zany, a first-grader is learning it for her end of year program. It’s amazing to me where her mind leads itself…
She offered to sing it for us last night. I’m ashamed to say that because of my husband’s and my response she may never sing again. We didn’t even get past the first line…
Zany sag, ‘Oh, how beautiful the spaceship shines’
I knew I shouldn’t laugh but oh my goodness! My poor baby ran crying from the room. THank goodness it was just drama & she wasn’t really hurt!! Uhh. I’d have felt soo bad!!
Now, I give you America the Beautiful as it was written (by Katharine Lee Bates):

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

I love to read! But I don't always think the synopsis on the backs of books do them justice. I do, however, believe all books should come with an intended rating - or at least a steam FYI. So, I'm taking upon myself to educate all -- christian & secular readers, alike -- on the books behind the synopsis and the possible things you may not want your YA reader to see. Enjoy!

Oh my gosh my little sister used to do things like this all the time.

I have to confess that I laugh at my two year old all the time. Her tantrums make me burst out laughing even. Then she winds up laughing and it's all better!

Yes! Zany came in the room a few minutes later and said – 'It wasn't that funny!'. we just laughed harder!!
